The Apprentice, Nearly ready

I have decided that I am just not the right profile for a traditional publisher, or agent for that matter, so I’m going to self-publish my first book.

I did a test run and it came out pretty good, but now I want to get the manuscript professionally copy-edited. I also need to get a decent cover done. Once I have those things accomplished, I’ll be ready to publish and sell this book that has been part of my life for nearly nine years.

Finally, an update

It is sad just how easy it is to neglect a site. I have done very little blogging anywhere for most of the last year. I moved to Kansas, nearly a year ago, and writing has been mostly taking a backseat to the other parts of my life. I have been continuing to make final edits on The Apprentice and I have added a fair number of new pages to my first draft of Journeyman, but outside of that, there hasn’t been much time to write. I haven’t written any short fiction at all this year.

So today I’ve finally done some long overdue clean-up on the site. I refined the story descriptions on the Zdrell trilogy page. I also posted a preview teaser from the book. Finally, I put together a writing samples page that links to the teaser, as well as a full version of Diving Interdiction, a story I wrote specifically for Analog, but that Stan didn’t like well enough to publish. I still think it’s an excellent story, though I doubt any existing publication would touch it, too politically incorrect in the wrong directions.

Hey, I’ve got a blog up and running now. Who knows what other wild and exciting things I might put on the site. As of now I’m nearly halfway done with edit 3.0 of The Apprentice. I’m actually making progress and hoping I can really get this thing done, sooner rather than later.

I need to make this site nice, but I need to get to the writing too!
